    As a compassionate vision expert and native Louisianan, Dr.Sanica Matthews has her eyes on providing optometric care for the community she grew up in. "Protecting my patients' vision adds to their quality of life," says Dr. Matthews. "I have a passion for the senior population because their health status is usually very sensitive. My goal is to help them improve their vision and share information on ocular conditions that they have or may be genetically predisposed to.     Can reading a novel turn a child into a doctor? That’s what happened to Dr. Karen Purdy. After reading Nicholas and Alexandra when she was in the seventh grade, she learned that Nicholas’ son had a blood disorder, which piqued her interest in medicine. Today, she’s learning more about her patients’ individual stories and helping them meet their unique needs. “I enjoy interacting with my patients and getting to know them,” Dr. Purdy says. “I’ve provided compassionate healthcare for three and four generations of families over the years, including senior patients in the Navajo Nation. Every one is special and it’s a privilege to support them.”

  • Donisha Dunn-Lombard, MD

    As a life-long resident of New Orleans, Dr. Donisha Dunn-Lombard is pleased to contribute to the happiness, health and well-being of those in her hometown. She does her best to help reduce suffering within her community and enable residents to stay productive and thrive. 'Working with seniors is special because it exposes me to a wonderful source of wisdom and life experience,' Dr. Dunn-Lombard says. 'I also enjoy sharing in the reality that, regardless of age, there is always something we can learn, teach, and do for others,' she adds. Dr. Dunn-Lombard specializes in internal medicine and psychiatry and believes that, for optimal outcomes, mental and general healthcare should be better integrated. Prior to joining JenCare, she was Director of Behavioral Health Services at Tulane University Community Health Center in New Orleans, and she has also served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine for both the internal medicine and psychiatry departments of Tulane University School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Upon returning to New Orleans she provided service through the Greater New Orleans Health Service Corps while teaching at Tulane University. She participated in facilitating the REACH NOLA Mental Health Infrastructure and Training Project in New Orleans and worked with St. Anna's Episcopal Mobile Medical Mission. Dr. Dunn-Lombard has many interests outside of her medical practice. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, practicing and teaching yoga, and singing. Dr. Dunn-Lombard is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry.

    As a child, Zia Romani always knew that she wanted to be part of the healing profession, and she ultimately moved over 7,000 miles away from home to help others in need. "I respect our seniors," Zia says. "One day, we will all become senior citizens and will need help managing through life's changes. I love providing acupuncture and seeing the relief a patient has after treatment. Combined with healthy lifestyle education and nutrition counseling, I’m helping patients live their highest quality of life, and that’s very rewarding."

    When Dr. Vijay Jaligam was in the 10th grade, he witnessed something amazing: his friend, who’d contracted rabies from a dog bite, started healing within three days of receiving therapy. It was this kind of healing transformation that captured his interest and eventually led him into medicine. “I remembered that time during my first days of practice in India,” says Dr. Jaligam. “My mother suggested that I start a free clinic, and so I did. As I worked with my patients, I realized that this was my dream – to bring compassionate care and healing to those in need.

    Nina Muñoz has a heart for seniors. In fact, caring for their hearts and whole mind-body wellness is one of the reasons she pursued a career in medicine. “Ensuring my patients’ well-being is what drives me every day,” Nina says. “I work closely on the team with their doctors to deliver the highest quality of care possible. As a physician assistant, I’m able to examine, diagnose, and treat a variety of acute and chronic health concerns. What’s even more important is having the ability to educate patients on how to stay well and out of the hospital. It’s rewarding to see their health and lives improve.”

    Dr. Price is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Prior to joining JenCare, Dr. Price worked as a general practice physician at Ostend Medical Centre in Auckland, New Zealand. He earned his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, and his doctorate from Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Price completed his family medicine residency at the University of Utah Department of Family and Preventative Medicine. “There is no greater job satisfaction than knowing you’ve made a positive impact on someone’s quality of life.”

  • William Bailey, MD

    MD

    Dr. William Bailey found a unique way to put himself through medical school by first obtaining his degree in pharmacy, which allowed him to work part time while earning his medical degree from Louisiana State University. His pharmacology background led him to cardiology and then to cardiac electrophysiology. He enjoys this particular specialty because through certain procedures, he is often able to cure patients rather than just treating them. Dr. Bailey strives to communicate clearly and respectfully with his patients. “My patients will find that they will become just like a part of my family and over time, will come to know me as well as I know them.”

    Doctor LaToya Fulton earned her doctoral degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. She completed an osteopathic family medicine residency at Houston Healthcare in Warner Robins, Georgia and a family medicine residency at Osteopathic Medical Education Consortium of Oklahoma in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She also served as Chief Resident at Integris NW Family Medicine Residency 2015 to 2016. Dr. Fulton is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. “My favorite part about being a physician is being able to educate patients on how to better manage their health, and the relationships we build in the process,” said Dr. Fulton. “I enjoy getting to know my patients and the things that are important in their lives.”

    Brittany Roussel is a registered dietitian specializing in diabetes, heart health, kidney disease and gout. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and completed her dietetic internship at North Oaks Health System in Hammond, Louisiana. Prior to joining JenCare, Brittany was a chronic care management dietitian with Peoples Health. “I have diet restrictions I must follow so I understand how frustrating it can be when someone recommends a change to your diet potentially reducing how often you can eat your favorite foods,” Brittany said. “I try to provide practical, usable knowledge in a way that makes sense that will help patients to feel better or to improve their lab values.”

    Sara Hansen’s interest in massage therapy, herbal medicine, and the human body led her to pursue a career as an acupuncturist. “I’m passionate about healthcare because I want to help people lead a more holistic life and feel good in their body as they age,” she explains. She emphasizes the importance of preventative care and strives for everyone to learn about health and nutrition. “I will always give one hundred percent to my patients,” she says. Sara Hansen proudly leads a healthy lifestyle. She enjoys fitness classes, hiking, and swimming in the ocean. She also loves traveling. She has lived in Thailand and studied in China’s Wudang mountain range. She would love to travel to Africa and has particular interest in visiting the pyramids in Egypt.

    For as long as Dr. Abbey Kavanagh can remember, she has wanted to be a physician. “I have a strong desire to help those around me,” she says. Dr. Kavanagh loves forming strong bonds with patients through mutual trust and authenticity. “I am dedicated to their health and wellbeing,” she says. Dr. Kavanagh strongly believes in functional medicine.     Shannon R. Jackson, who was born and raised in New Orleans, is honored to serve her community. “I love being able to relate to patients and talk about family and food,” she says. She loves “empowering patients to improve their health.” She adds, “It’s extremely rewarding working with the senior population.” If she could change anything about healthcare today, she would eliminate racial disparities and emphasize the importance of preventive care. “I involve the patient in their care and provide emotional support,” she says. In her free time, Shannon R. Jackson enjoys exploring new restaurants around the city and traveling with her friends and family. She shares that she has a fish pond in her backyard with Koi fish and goldfish.

I believe there is so much to learn from them from their wealth of knowledge and experiences.” As a healthcare professional, she considers herself a lifelong learner and regularly engages with professional organizations and continuing education courses.     Dr. Shantrese Dupart realized her interest in medicine at a young age. She enjoys giving back to the senior population and wants “to offer them a safe place where they will receive quality care from a physician who cares.” She adds, “Having a physician to be there for you at all times will change the dynamics of how our patients interact with all healthcare professionals.” In her free time, Dr. Dupart enjoys traveling, volunteering in the local community, and spending quality time with family.
